Exploring Clay: touch, shape, and form (July 18th and 19th)
Exploring Clay: touch, shape, and form (July 18th and 19th)
Andrew Vlock, the ceramics artist at codo, has more than 14 years of experience teaching and practicing studio pottery. Whether you're interested in working with clay for the first time or are a more experienced maker, all are welcome.
This workshop focuses on listening to the material and paying attention to how you work with it. Rather than treating tools and techniques as separate disciplines, we'll move fluidly between hand-building, wheel throwing, using slump molds, trimming, slip work, and clay preparation. Along the way, we'll explore how different processes can inform one another and create unique functional and sculptural pieces.
Class size is limited to five students, allowing for plenty of hands-on instruction, demonstrations, and individual attention throughout the day.
Schedule
The workshop begins at 9:00 a.m. and runs until 3:30 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break at noon.
Students can expect to have their piece(s) fired to Cone 10 oxidation. Additional pieces may be fired for an additional fee.
Light snacks and refreshments will be provided throughout the day.
Please Bring
